N124 Presidential Possibilities of 1888
N124 back
This set of 25 cards was issued with Honest Long Cut tobacco by the Duke company in 1888.
They're large cards (2 9/16" X 4 1/8") displaying portraits of presidential "possibilities" for that year's election, where
Benjamin Harrison (Rep.) was pitted against the incumbent Grover Cleveland (Dem.). Cleveland won the popular vote,
but Harrison beat him in the electoral college; this didn't happen again in a presidential election until 2000. Most prominent among the other politicians in this set are
William McKinley (elected president in 1896) and Robert Lincoln, son of Abraham Lincoln.
